So what makes this course special?
It gives you the practical skills and ethical understanding that is required prior to being assessed to be able to progress to all other appropriate qualifications. Delivered by a well established trainer in this field.

 

Overview
This qualification is about the maintenance of a chainsaw and cross-cutting trees at ground level. Chainsaws used in aerial and ground work are covered. Cross-cutting operations will include cross-cutting timber under tension in the form of fallen branches, tops, tree sections, severed uprooted stems, horizontal stems, or any timber in a similar situation. Cross-cutting operations are often carried out in conjunction with the snedding or de-limbing process. Timber under low and moderate tension is covered, but not timber under the extreme tensions found in e.g. windblown trees.  This standard is for those using chainsaws.


What is involved?

Carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system
Cross cut timber using a chainsaw

Candidates are expected to have their own PPE, For this course is :- chainsaw protective boots, trousers/leggings, a forestry hard hat which included ear protectors and a visor.

 

Unit 201 Carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system.

 

Outcomes

1. Be able to work safely 
2. Be able to carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system
3. Be able to carry out operational chainsaw checks 
4. Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
5. Know how to carry out maintenance of chainsaw and cutting system.

Candidates must successfully achieve all assessment activities in the above unit.

 

Unit 202 Cross-cut Timber Using a Chainsaw.  

 

Outcomes:
1. Be able to work safely
2. Be able to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw
3. Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice
4. Know how to cross-cut timber using a chainsaw

 

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.


Certification / Award on successful completion
NPTC Assessments take place on a separate day, depending on assessor availability and candidate ability.  Successful candidates will be awarded with NPTC Certificates of competence.
